Frank en Nancy Teagarden zijn een lage upper-class familie met een glanzende, zwarte Range Rover en een smaakvolle Tudor-stijl woning. Met knikkende knieën zetten ze hun dochter af voor haar eerste dag op de universiteit. De twee ouders konden niet trotser zijn. Echter wanneer kort daarna de deurwaarder op de stoep staat lijkt hun rijkdom minder veilig dan gedacht. In een poging hun dochter op de universiteit te kunnen houden besluiten ze een vrijmarkt te organiseren gevolgd door een nacht met veel drank. De volgende ochtend blijken ze een aantal betreurenswaardige beslissingen genomen te hebben.
