In een nabije toekomst heeft een zwermachtig buitenaards ras, Mimics genaamd, de Aarde op een meedogenloze manier aangevallen. Maar nu hebben de Aardse legers hun krachten gebundeld voor een laatste offensief tegen de buitenaardse horde. Lt. Col. Bill Cage is een officier die op niets minder dan een zelfmoordmissie gestuurd wordt. Cage wordt binnen enkele minuten gedood, maar hij slaagt erin om een Alpha met zich mee te nemen. Maar dan, op onmogelijke wijze, ontwaakt hij opnieuw op dezelfde helse dag, en moet hij opnieuw vechten en sterven…en opnieuw. Maar bij elke keer wordt Cage sterker en slimmer en zal zijn herhaaldelijke gevecht een kans bieden om de sleutel tot de vernietiging van de buitenaardse indringers te vinden en de Aarde te redden.
