In 1638 geeft Koningin Anne van Frankrijk geboorte aan een jongen die de troon zal erven. Maar wat maar een paar mensen weten is dat er 20 minuten later een tweelingbroer geboren werd. 22 jaar later regeert Koning Lodewijk de 14e Frankrijk met harde hand. Het volk werkt hard en hij profiteert daar van. De koning wordt verliefd op de jonge Christine die echter al uitgehuwelijkt is aan Raoul, de zoon van één van de Musketiers. De koning stuurt Raoul naar het front om te vechten zodat hij daarna alle tijd heeft om Christine het hof te maken. Raoul sneuvelt tijdens de oorlog en de Musketiers willen wraak. En dan komt de man die al een hele lange tijd in de koningskerkers zit met een ijzeren masker op goed van pas.
